IMPERIALS visited Tailem Bend for the A grade River Murray Netball Association match on Saturday and played some physical netball.
Tailem’s young guns tried hard, but were 12 down by the first break.
Imps’ defenders intercepted many balls and put a lot of pressure on Tailem’s goalers Zoe Tomkinson and Mel Edwards.
Great mid court play by Imps’ Penny Fielke and wing attack Carrie Daniels fed goalers Olivia Scholz and Sarah March, who both shot and moved extremely well.
Athalie McArdle in centre for Tailem was strong and influential and directed play with her young charges, making some strong leads.
The mid court tussle with Imps’ Penny Fielke was tough and played in fantastic spirit.
Tailem’s Geemus Green in goal keeper had an excellent day out and tried hard all day with many great interceptions.
Imps moved ahead strongly in the third quarter with some great passages of play from goal keeper Sharon Taylor right through to March and Scholz in goals.
The final score was Imps 74 to Tailem Bend 36.

A reserves
Imps dominated from the very start.
Imps’ goalers shot with precision and Tailem settled in the second quarter, with Charise Bristow driving hard through the centre.
Deanne Gower read the play well with some good interceptions.
Tailem made changes in the third quarter and picked up the pace, but Imps were far too good.
Deanna Lush in the centre for Imps kept driving hard, making life difficult for the Tailem girls.
Imps ran out winners 66-33.

B grade
Tailem Bend managed to score the first goal in the B grade clash.
From that moment on Imperials took control of the game winning every position on the court.
With a 12-goal lead at the first break it looked like it would be a long afternoon for the Tailem girls.
Not one player in the Tailem side conceded and continually tried different things to get themselves back into the game, but Imps were too strong and were determined to run out victors.
Cassie Kozikowski at goal keeper was the best for Tailem, her battle with Imps’ goal shooter Danielle Roselt was the clash of the day.
Imps defenders Rachel Mobbs and Jodie Bain were far too strong for Tailem’s goalers Leonne Capes and Tina Penhall who struggled all match.
Imps’ Amanda Hunt and Danielle Roselt were the pick of the goalers.
Kellie Wilson at centre for Imps also had a good game against Tailem’s Kellie Hill.
Best players: None supplied.
C grade
In very warm conditions Tailem held Imps to an even first quarter.
Tight defending from Tailem’s Robyn Mayfield and Sarah Richmond kept Imps’ goalers working hard.
Imps came out stronger all over the court in the second quarter and gained an eight-goal lead.
In the third Tailem tried hard to gain momentum and bridge the gap, with Leonne Capes, Jaimie Collins and Mel Hill working well in attack.
In the last quarter both teams fought hard, with Imps the most accurate in the goal circle. Imps ran out winners 51-40.

17 and under
Tailem and Imps both started strongly.
The mid court of Emily Edwards for Tailem and Chloe Mazzeo were having a good tussle, but Edwards fed her goalers beautifully and started to dominate the mid court early.
In the second quarter the game turned very defensive with Imps’ Jade Lewis as goal defence and Alyce Clarke as goal keeper intercepting many passes.
Tailem’s goal defence Jade Capes and Ashlee Clapp as goal keeper too were outstanding, turning over many balls.
The half time scores were Tailem 22 to Imps 12.
The third quarter saw some changes to both teams and Tailem settled quicker and moved ahead by 14 goals at the next break.
Paige Gower in wing defence played a great game for Tailem, dominating her position.
The last quarter saw Tailem’s goalers Emily Edwards and Teegan Edwards shooting very accurately and Tailem ran out winners 44 to Imps 23.

15 and under division one
Imps started well and got the first few goals, capatilising on Tailem’s mistakes.
Tailem fought back well and were down by six at quarter time.
The second quarter was an even one with all players contesting the ball well.
Imps came our firing in the third and increased their lead.
The last quarter saw Tailem fighting hard, but Imps were the winners on the day.

13 and under division two
Both teams started well and applied pressure, causing the ball to be turned over many times.
Tailem had a new defence combination which improved greatly as the game progressed.
Imps’ determination kept them in the game and they were only three goals down at half time.
Fresh legs and position changes enabled Tailem to pull away in the last to win by seven goals.

11 and under
Tailem scored first with Nikitta Capes and Ashlee Zadow combining well in goals.
Imperials’ defenders Madeline Adler and Serena Lienert defended hard.
Tailem came out firing in the second quarter with Sarah Duell and Alex Appelbee feeding the ball well into their gaolers.
Imps’ Caitlin Hattam and Abbey Lindsay worked hard in the mid court and at the half time break Tailem were up by nine.
A change to the Tailem Team saw the goaler combinations change, with Breeanna Penhall and Emily Trezize taking some great interceptions.
Annabel Wheaton played a tight game in centre with Shaylean Paech having a great quarter in wing defence.
In the last quarter Imps’ centre Rani Smith passed beautifully into her goalers Serena Lienert and Leitisha Wards.
Tailem’s Bridey Merrett and Sarah Shepherd worked hard in the goal ring, shooting some great goals.
The final score was Tailem 22 to Imps 8.

Minis
The minis game between Tailem and Imps was played at a great standard.
Tailem’s attack of Taylah Edwards, Kirsty Piggott and Sarah Drendell worked effectively, all having a fair share of the ball.
Georg-jah Mitchell for Tailem pulled in some terrific rebounds at goal keeper, with Breeanna Connolly at goal defence applying strong pressure to Imps’ goalers.
Bethany Clapp tried hard all game, taking many interceptions for her team. Tailem’s Gergia Duell fed the goalers well as well as applying pressure down the court.
Taylah Edwards and Breeanna Connolly worked well in attack in the last quarter chasing down every loose ball.

Meningie upsets Ramblers
IN perfect conditions Meningie took on Ramblers in their A grade netball clash, taking the points in a high standard game.
Ramblers had the first centre pass and converted well.
Both sides applied plenty of pressure, which had the ball going up and straight back down the court after some early mistakes.
Ramblers’ Sam Wehrman, in centre, had a good battle with Meningie’s Krystle Gibbs, with neither player giving an inch.
The first quarter was even with both teams having 11 goals each at the first break.
Meningie came out firing in the second quarter with goalers Jane Swan and Tracey Mitchell moving and converting well.
Ramblers’ Melanie Wehrman went down with a serious ankle injury half way through the quarter, which made Ramblers adjust their side.
Kelly Barton-Ancliffe, Ramblers’ wing defence, was playing a tight game on Meningie’s Josie Saddlier, who was giving Meningie plenty of drive in attack.
Meningie was in front at the long break 30-21.
Ramblers came out in the third quarter, lifting the tempo as goalers Nikki Wehrman and Tania McFee found their range and caused Meningie defenders Lauren Thorpe and Beth Marsson to work hard.
Ramblers had a five-minute spurt which closed the gap and had Meningie leading by four goals, 43-39 at three quarter time.
In the last quarter Ramblers tried to throw everything at Meningie.
Meningie wing attack Wonita Gibbs made a couple of important intercepts in the last quarter, which they converted.
The last quarter went goal for goal in a high standard match, with Meningie running out winners by four goals 59-55.

A reserves
It was a win for Meningie in what was a close game towards the end of the match.
Meningie led by a mere one goal at quarter time, but extended their lead by six at half-time.
Ramblers then made changes, taking a while to settle.
Meningie stayed focused working the ball hard into the goals.
Meningie had a lead of seven goals at the three-quarter-time break.
In the last quarter it was a struggle for Meningie to maintain its lead as Ramblers dug deep and closed the cap to within two goals.
Towards the end of the game things got a bit scrappy with Meningie able to overturn a few desperate passes to finish with a win, 49-45.

B grade
Ramblers started strongly in the game, scoring the first three goals.
The Meningie defence worked hard, producing some turnovers but taking a bit longer to settle, to be one goal up at quarter time.
Rambler shooter Abbi Koch shot accurately as centre players Mel Catlin and Linda Peach worked the ball well down the court.
At half-time Meningie led by five goals.
Meningie made changes at the half-time break, bringing on Narelle Hincks into keeper, who made many timely intercepts.
Rambler goal defender Kerryn Stevens GD for Ramblers backed her team well own the court.
Both teams worked hard in the last quarter, but Meningie were able to hold onto their lead to win by nine goals, 42-33.

C grade
Both teams came out strong in the first quarter with good driving down the centre court.
Kelly Gubbins, Meningie, and Sarah Russell, Ramblers, fought hard to maintain the ball and feed into their respective goalers.
Quarter-time scores were Meningie 7, Ramblers 5.
Ramblers’ defence tightened up in the second quarter with Natalie Bolt and Beth Quast putting a lot of pressure on Meningie goalers Lia Mead and Michelle Swan.
Meningie wing attack Dana Wilson made some great intercepts, but Ramblers took the lead at half-time to be ahead by five goals.
Changes in Meningie’s attack line-up worked well with Dana Wilson going to shooter and Michelle Swan to goal attack.
This resulted in some accurate shooting.
The quarter was tight with the score at three quarter time tied at 21 goals each.
Ramblers came out strong in the last quarter with Kathleen Garret driving into the goal circle and putting pressure on defenders Jade Greenwood and Lia Mead, but Meningie stood strong and came out on top winning by three goals.
Final score was Meningie 33, Ramblers 30.

17 and under
This was a fairly one-sided game as Ramblers dominated every quarter.
Meningie struggled to convert in goals and became more unsettled as Charlotte Wenske went down with an ankle injury in the third quarter.
Kathleen Garrett (GS) and Kahlia Smith (GA) were showing some fine form in the goal circle, rarely missing.
Meningie’s defence was working hard and with goal defence Brent Rowe rebounding and intercepting well all game.
Unfortunately Meningie could not convert many goals and Ramblers ran out easy winners, 52-12.

15 and under division one
Ramblers started strongly, picking up any loose balls and converting every attempt for goal.
Meningie’s defence work tirelessly with Hannah Pittendreigh and Nicole Swan playing a tight game.
However, with the accuracy of Rambler goalers Emily Hurford and Kim Mitchell there was no chance of rebounds.
At half-time Meningie made some changes with Nicole Swan going to shooter and Jess Starling to keeper.
This proved to be a good change, as Starling intercepted well, picking up every loose ball.
It was a good game, but Ramblers were stronger, running out winners 56-31.

15 and under division two
Meningie played another great team game defeating Ramblers by six goals, 47-41.
The game was even, but Meningie controlled the first three quarters, leading by nine at the end of the third quarter.
Rambler’s height in defence through Meghan Rayson and Olivia Doecke put Meningie goalers Sarafina Rankine and Haley Shaw under pressure.
Ramblers started to make a comeback in the last quarter, but Meningie held on to win by six goals.

13 and under division one
Both Meningie and Ramblers came out attacking the ball hard.
The first quarter saw Meningie defenders Mikayla Smart and Alana Standley put pressure on Ramblers goalers Dana McDonald and Stephanie Lubcke, who were very accurate.
Strong driving down the mid court by Ramblers’ Jasmine Trevorrow at wing attack made it difficult for Meningie to pick up intercepts.
Both sides made changes in the second half.
Strong passes were made into Chelsea Hancock GS after bringing Brigitte Botha into GA and Samara Gemmell WA.
Ramblers flow down the court with Zoe Koch at centre made the Meningie defenders work hard.
Ramblers had the height advantage and dominated the court, and were too strong for Meningie.
Final scores were Ramblers 52, Meningie 14.

13 and under division two
The game started with both teams defending strongly.
Defenders Kaneta Marin and Kaitlin McKenzie-Campbell continuously created many turnovers.
Rambler mid court players Hope Lucas and Maegan Hurford positioned well, and had a lot of possessions, making it hard work for Meningie’s Adele Pittendreigh and Sophia Flanagan.
Ramblers put Dana Lokan in to goals in the third quarter, which proved to be a good move with her height and accuracy, contributing to her team’s win. Ramblers ran out easy winners on the day, 37-2.

11 and under
Ramblers dominated the first quarter with goalers Keeley Stevens and Sara McKerlie combining well to finish with a seven-goal lead in the first quarter.
Meningie fought back well in the second quarter with great defence from Brianna Wilson and Mika Goya, helping to close the game slightly.
Ramblers held their own during the third and forth quarters to bring them home with a comfortable win, 18-9.

Minis
All the girls played well with Chantelle Weetra intercepting all over the court for Meningie.
Kadesha Kartinyeri was playing very well in defence for Meningie.
The Rambler girls tried hard and handled the ball well with Madison Edwards and Lucinda Howell playing a good game.
Meningie ran out winners on the day by eight goals, 11-3.

Roos down Bluds in tough match
MANNUM showed determination and strength to finish in front in a tough match against Jervois at home.
Jervois won the toss and elected to take the first centre pass, with Mannum rebounding and converting to score the first goal.
Mannum’s confidence and drive into attack through Kim McQueen (centre) and Deanna Smith (wing attack) made it hard for the Jervois defenders to stop the flow.
Jervois defenders applied strong physical pressure to Mannum goalers Katrina Reschke and Amy Loechel.
Mannum were shooting accurately to give Mannum a seven-goal lead at the first break.
Scores were Mannum 15, Jervois 7.
Jervois changed Sally Llewellyn from goal attack to shooter in the second quarter, creating a strong focal point for the Jervois mid court.
Llewellyn’s accuracy was outstanding, netting 12 from 12 for the quarter.
Jervois wing attack Tracy Kennett created space and continued to drive the ball into attack.
Mannum’s McQueen was working hard in both attack and defence while her opponent Kelly Maczkowiak also worked tirelessly all day.
At half-time Mannum led 27-20.
Jervois came out with determination in the third quarter, but Mannum’s Tracy Loechel and Chantelle Zadow applied pressure, creating drive through the centre court.
Jervois outscored Mannum by three goals in the third quarter, but Mannum were still in front by four.
Scores at the break were Mannum 38, Jervois 34.
Mannum came out firing in the final term with Tracy Loechel taking several inspirational intercepts and their goalers making the most of every scoring opportunity.
Mannum finished strongly 55-46.

A reserves
In warm conditions Mannum recorded a strong win over Jervois.
The first quarter began evenly in the early minutes, with scores going goal for goal.
Carlie Mason and Kristyn Morris, for Jervois, were combining well and shooting accurately.
Mannum gained a couple of timely intercepts and began to edge away at the end of the first quarter, going into the break with a six-goal lead.
Mannum opened strongly in the second quarter with Andrea Wegner (goal attack) shooting accurately from all angles.
The Jervois defenders worked hard, but were unable to shut her down.
Renae Wakefield (keeper) combined well with Kellie Schmidt (goal defence) in defence for Mannum, taking strong rebounds and intercepts, sending Mannum back into attack.
Mannum had extended their lead to 20 goals by the main break.
Jervois made positional changes at half time to try and slow their opponents.
This had an initial effect as Jervois moved the ball through Nicki Smith.
Mannum steadied and took control towards the end of the quarter, and had a 26-goal lead at the final break.
Shelby Rosenzweig moved to goal attack to allow Deanna Smith to come on at centre in the final quarter.
Mannum was a little unsettled with the new combination in attack, but settled towards the end of the quarter to run out winners by 35 goals, 72-37.

B grade
Jervois opened strongly in the final match of the day.
Mannum appeared more settled in their attacking line-up, creating strong leads and feeding well into goalers Sue Egmanis and Emma Elicher.
The scores were goal for goal until Egmanis suffered a knee injury.
Krystal Owen replaced Egmanis, but it unsettled Mannum, allowing Jervois to hold a five-goal lead at the end of the first quarter.
Mannum worked hard to maintain the pressure, but Jervois increased their work rate and started to extend their lead.
Kristen Herrmann was putting in a 100 per cent effort, creating pressure against Jervois’ attacking line.
Jervois shooter Melissa Braun and Mannum keeper Julie Strauss were having a great tussle in the circle.
Jervois opened the third quarter strongly.
Coralie Batchelor (GD) made the Mannum goalers work for every shot.
Unfortunately inaccuracy let them down and Jervois continued to extend their lead.
In the final quarter Mannum swapped their shooter and keeper, which was a positive move.
Mannum began to play strong netball as scores went goal for goal for most of the quarter.
Although the scores truly didn’t indicate the game, Jervois proved too strong on the day posting a good win.

17 and under
Jervois defeated Mannum in a battle for fifth spot and would have been very pleased to have their first win for the season.
Jervois got off to a great start, using the height of Kristie Gabell as a focus at shooter.
She combined well with Rachel Hunt at goal attack as both converted strongly.
Mannum struggled to get into the goal circle with the ball being cut off through the mid court.
Jervois led 15-6 at quarter-time.
It was more of the same in the second quarter, even though Mannum made changes to attempt to provide better match-ups.
Jervois goal defence Jenna Gamma had many deflections and intercepts, stopping the ball from reaching Mannum’s goalers.
At half-time, Jervois led 24-9.
Mannum stepped up in the second half, playing much better netball.
Danae Male came on at wing attack, providing some much needed drive and consistent passing into the goalers.
Cassie Buscumb and Hannah Pfitzner shot accurately for Mannum, working the ball around the circle when needed.
At three-quarter time Jervois led 39-22.
Mannum won the final quarter by four goals, but could not reel in Jervois, going down 37-50.
Congratulations to Mannum’s Annastasia Kendall who played her 100th game for the club.

15 and under division two
In hotter then expected conditions Mannum started well against Jervois.
The teams went goal for goal in the first quarter with Karina Harris and Ashleigh Mobbs shooting well for Mannum.
At the end of the quarter it was even six-goals-all.
Mannum’s Ashleigh Vivian and Jervois’ Johanna Chudy had a great tussle in the second quarter.
Mannum’s mid court of Laura Wilson and Cassidie Rochow created many turnovers, giving Mannum the edge, 13-11 at half-time.
Hannah Kluske, at shooter, tried hard in goals for Jervois, but had to break through the tough defence of Ashleigh Vivian and Tanika Prowse.
Kaitlyn May was having a strong game for Jervois, but was unable to stop Mannum goalers Lauren Wiblin and Ashleigh Mobbs.
Mannum strengthened their lead, 28-14.
In the final quarter Mannum continued to dominate with great pressure from Tamika O’Malley and Ruby Adams.
In a physical last quarter Mannum came out on top to win 34-15.

13 and under division two
Jervois won the centre pass and scored the first two goals with Briana Kahl’s height in goal attack, being an obvious advantage against her shorter opponent Alana Schache.
Mannum’s Tara Yeates and Caitlin Christiansen worked hard in the mid court allowing Kaitlyn Lowe to score Mannum’s first goal.
Mannum made some passing errors in the quarter, but their flow down the court was good.
Jervois outscored Mannum in this quarter by nine goals.
In the second quarter both teams made changes with Mannum’s Sophie Kroehn going to keeper and Rebecca Van Eldik coming on as goal defence.
Jervois brought on Charlotte Miles at goal attack and Jacinta Dugan as goal defender.
Mannum’s Holly Modra tried valiantly on the wing to add strength to her side.
Jervois had many scoring opportunities, but Mannum’s defence applied pressure, limiting Jervois to only three goals, with Mannum scoring four for the quarter. Mannum’s Stephanie Winter took some good catches, and at half-time Mannum trailed Jervois 7-17.
Jervois dominated the third quarter with a good tussle between Mannum’s Nikita Rose and Jervois’ Kahl.
Great team work by Jervois’ Miles and Morgan Morris in goals gave Jervois the opportunity to extend their lead by seven goals in the quarter.
Jervois came out strong in the final term, forcing Mannum into errors and scrappy play.
They continued their good form by adding 13 goals for the quarter and go on to a comfortable win.
Final scores were Mannum 12 to Jervois 38.

Mannum started with the first centre pass, unfortunately Jervois began strongly and managed to score the first goal of the match.
Jervois’ Jessica Hoad and Emily Gommers defended tightly and applied pressure on Mannum’s attack, making it hard for them to score.
Kayla Robinson, Mannum and Kelsey Reynolds, Jervois, had a tight battle in the mid court, with Robinson intercepting many passes and feeding strongly into attack.
Jervois’ defence over the court was just too strong for Mannum, not allowing them to score.
Jervois finished the game 24-0.

Minis
Mannum and Jervois have a mixture of new and second year players which made for some balanced court play.
Elizabeth Griggs started the game at centre for Mannum, was evenly matched with Jesse Heym from Jervois.
Mannum had some great passages of play from one end of the court to the other working the ball through Zara Male, Rachel Gassner, Sophie Stagg and finishing in goals with Erika Mullins and Emmeline Vivian, who combined well to score two goals for the quarter.
Jervois changed Tia-Jae Conway-Jaensch from wing attack to goal defence in the second quarter, and she intercepted quite a few passes.
Mannum’s Sophie Stagg was making space and moved the ball well down court.
Gassner was everywhere for Mannum, intercepting and then re-offering down court.
At three quarter time Mannum’s Erika Mullins came back on at shooter and provided a target for her team-mates.
Nikayla Clark, Mannum, moved to centre and provided some valuable leads although she did struggle with the height of opponent Jade Collins.
Mannum got a run on and scored six goals for the quarter making it 12-3 at three quarter time.
In the last quarter Mannum’s Zara Male played some great defence and was assisted by Aleesha Neville at goal defence.
Tia-Jae Conway-Jaensch and Kacee Verhees shooting for Jervois moved the ball well and scored two goals for the quarter.
Ayla Craig, Emmeline Vivian and Erika Mullins moved the ball extremely well in Mannum’s attacking end.
